Montessori materials are worldwide instruments developed and refined by Dr. Maria Montessori over decades. They were always thought to be autodidactic tools for the senses and the mind to support the child in his or her development, as opposed to traditional instruction. This is the reason why Montessori herself named the materials she created "development material".
